Murcielagos Island and Huevos Bay Costa Rica
This morning the Sea Voyager arrived to one of the most remote areas of the Guanacaste Conservation Area: Murcielagos Islands. In December 1999 this territory was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.
After breakfast we landed on the beach and proceeded to explore different marine and land areas of the main island. Some of our guests decided to take a one hour hike along the ridge at the top of the island. Once there, a mild refreshing breeze blew in our faces as we admired the beauty of the windward side of the island. Luis, a park guardian, welcomed us to the beach and pointed out the best snorkeling spot by the ranger’s station. Those who went snorkeling enjoyed the pristine waters and healthy rock and coral formation. Rainbow runners, chancho surgeonfish, guineafowl puffer and even a school of wahoo fish were special sightings during this outing.
We came back onboard for lunch and after lifting the anchor we headed south to Bahia Huevos. Ten minutes after, our expedition leader Bernal announced a sighting of a humpback whale that was visible for a short period of time.
Upon arrival at Bahia Huevos, we departed on a kayak and Zodiac exploration of the bay and mangrove forest. Subsequently, we had the chance to swim from the beach and after a colorful sunset, bulldog fishing bats were flying and feeding around the stern of the ship to conclude a great day in Costa Rica.
