Williams Cove and Tracy Arm
We started this morning in a dense fog. As we entered Williams Cove the fog faded to mist and we headed off the ship for hikes, Zodiac rides and kayaking. The cove was full of beautiful icebergs to investigate and ponder. Floating through this ice sculpture garden we could hear the crackling of small air bubbles being released from the ice. On the far banks, a hidden waterfall cascaded down through the trees. It was a peaceful place to take in the Tongass National Forest one last time.
In the afternoon the National Geographic Sea Lion repositioned through the majestic steep cliffs of Tracy Arm. This is one of our most dramatic Zodiac experiences. There were numerous harbor seals hauled out on the ice. We navigated through gigantic pieces of clear blue ice to get a closer look at South Sawyer Glacier. First we heard cracking on the glacier face and then a large part of the face of the glacier came crashing down, accompanied by thundering roars. Ka-Boom! What a memorable way to end our voyage together.
