Arriving to the large island of Santa Cruz, we observed that a heavy mist referred to as garua was hanging over the island. As we approached we could see the lush vegetation that covers this island, very different in comparison with the arid coastal areas previously encountered during this expedition. Masses of Darwin finches flit about with the Galapagos mockingbird lyrically declaring its territory. The temperature becomes cooler as we gain altitude and search for giant tortoises in the mist, with all apparently surprised at this steep contrast of environments and habitats that occupy these enchanted islands.
