We are having beautiful weather and a lot of fun exploring the Amazon basin. These facts inspire us for early morning exploration trips looking for wildlife among the trees in the flooded forest. The forest, the large rivers, and the complexity of this vast ecosystem are breathtaking! We never know what we are going to see. Each outing is shrouded by surprises, which makes each visit exiting and something we want to be a part of.
In the early morning we had a pre-breakfast outing along the riverbank. We boarded the skiffs and headed downstream, all of us with binoculars and cameras in hand, looking for some sort of wildlife. It did not take too many seconds to find that birds of all sizes surrounded us. There were some parrots, jacanas, flycatchers, and a toucan close to us! Shortly afterwards we realized that there were not only birds but there were several three-toed sloths. Some were still sleeping and others just starting their day. Certainly in slow motion!
Later on after breakfast, we headed to a small village called San Jorge. Here, we were received by the people of the community, the local leaders who told us about their lives as people of the rain forest, their culture, and their efforts to improve their ways of life.
At around noontime we gathered at the cozy open bar lounge on the Delfin II to celebrate with pisco sours in hand our journey along the mighty Amazon River. Later on we reached our planned destination, stopped the ship, and got ready to explore Clavero Lake. This place is special for the wildlife we got to see as we explored the lake. It was actually a superb collection of creatures such as pink and grey dolphins, squirrel monkeys, pigmy marmosets, and a plum-throated cotinga. Just to mention a few!
Another beautiful day in the heart of the Jungle!
