It was a slightly rainy morning today but actually the ideal kind of weather to get into the Monkey River of Belize.
Under a very slight drizzle with our local boats and guides we ventured inside of the Monkey River. The temperature was ideal, and so was the light for photography. Right at the entrance of the river there were many herons and egrets actively looking for their breakfast, kingfishers flying back and forth, and later, high up on the trees, a little distant we got see and listen to the black howler monkeys with their very loud and distinctive calls.
Half way inside the river we were surprised to find an already
bloated dead crocodile, which had apparently been shot dead by a fearful local,
and further inside the river, almost at our turning point we got to see a
fairly large live crocodile very well hidden inside the vegetation. We could perfectly
understand why it was so wary, and careful to try to remain unseen.
A little of a drizzle, but a great morning, full of great sighting on the monkey river of Belize.
