It’s our first day in Costa Rica and first day of this amazing journey aboard the National Geographic Sea Lion. It was a memorable day for everyone: long hikes, short hikes, everybody had a chance to enjoy this beautiful national park where the rainforest meets the ocean.

As the groups left the station and we ventured deeper into the jungle, the possibilities of finding exotic fauna increased. Little by little, the animals started to awake and decided to make an appearance. The first were agoutis, follow by the white-throated capuchin-monkeys and lastly the howlers came to let us know who the loudest animals in the tropics were.

As morning continued, we all were surprised by the famous three-toed sloth, an amazing mammal that spends up to 18 hours a day sleeping. Believe me- it is always a “treat” to get to see them awake and moving around.

Concluding our perfect morning we had howler monkeys and a big pack of squirrel-monkeys give us a warm “welcome to Costa Rica." We all got our great opportunities to get that “Wow” photographic shot that we were looking for on our first day.

In the afternoon our guests enjoyed the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean and new photo shoots. After all these activities, we got back to our ship to enjoy the recap sessions and a delicious dinner.
