The DER below is from the expedition to Cuba that began on February 8, 2017.

Today we were at Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth) off the southwestern coast of Cuba.  The island has inspired books, was intended to be a rich man’s playground during the Batista years, and received its current name by Fidel Castro when he built several schools and brought kids from lesser developed countries there for a free education.  We visited Presidio Modelo, the prison that Fidel was kept during Batista’s time.  Later in the day we visited the town of Nueva Girona and explored a local art school.
