Tamarindo Bay and Cabo Velas

After enjoying a great cultural experience in Nicaragua we returned early this morning to Costa Rican waters. After clearing customs and immigration we headed to one of the most important beach destinations in the northern pacific province of Guanacaste: Tamarindo.

Our families had the opportunity after a couple of days of venturing inland to enjoy some beach activities again. Surfing lessons and boogie boarding were the best part and number one choice for our younger explorers. Some guests went exploring to a mangrove forest in the river mouth of the Tamarindo river, while others used up sometime shopping and getting to see the eclectic town of Tamarindo.

Upon return to the ship and a great lunch, we had the chance to return to a different and more private sector of the beach. This time we decided to explore a small reserve in the west end of the beach, where we were greeted with some special sightings such as mantled howler monkeys, great crested flycatcher, Hoffmann’s woodpecker and squirrel cuckoo. The contrast involving the development in the main area of the town versus the wildlife survival in this reserve imprinted upon us the message that respecting the balance between nature and humans must be sustainable for the sake of our future generations.
