Isla Danzante and Isla del Carmen
Today we visited two of the most scenic places of the Bahia de Loreto Marine Reserve. The Sierra de la Giganta or “Mountain Range of the Giantess” on the Baja California Peninsula was the majestic landscape we admired from the shore of Isla Danzante, where we spent the morning. Isla Danzante or “Dancer” is a small narrow island whose silhouette looks like a dragon. Here we were greeted by some bottlenose dolphins before breakfast. We kayaked and explored the turquoise underwater world. The water’s clarity was beautiful, and the marine life diversity was amazing. As we left Isla Danzante sailing north towards Arroyo Blanco Norte, the northern end of Isla del Carmen where we spent the afternoon, hundreds of long-beaked common dolphins appeared and playfully escorted the ship for about half hour.
Isla Del Carmen is a privately owned island, and it is exceptionally beautiful. The water is usually clear and emerald blue and green. Arroyo Blanco Norte is one of our favorite locations, and it is very versatile for hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, and diving, and this is exactly what we did. Not only that, but we also played with the “banana boat” and ended the day with a wonderful dinner ashore. We had a surprise celebration for the 4th of July, where the crew offered fireworks by burning some expired flares as they had a drill ashore. There is no doubt that the Gulf of California always has exceptional things to offer.
