Morning found us leaving the Snake River and entering the small tributary called the Palouse. In October of 1805 the Lewis and Clark Expedition named this river Drewyer's River after one of the members of the expedition. Our exploration of this region has some similarities to how Lewis and Clark traveled, both expeditions were/are interested in all aspects of the region, including natural history and native people. The Palouse River gave us opportunities for a more hands on exploration, in the spirit of Lewis and Clark, with hikes into the desert steppes habitat, and kayaks and Zodiacs for a water level examination. Like Lewis and Clark, salmon was featured for our barbeque lunch today, but we would guess that our soy ginger marinade was not on their menu.
