Today we had a marvelous opportunity to kayak at San Pedro Martir, an oceanic island in the Gulf of California. The shoreline of this island is somewhat treacherous and it makes landing here nearly impossible, so kayaking is the perfect opportunity to see the sea birds and sea lions that adorn the shore of this rugged place. Our guests were able to get close up looks at blue-footed boobies, brown boobies, brown pelicans, and yellow-footed gulls that perched on the rocks that surround the island. The picture above is of the webbed feet of a young brown booby that was seen near the shore. Like many sea birds these webbed feet allow the booby to swim swiftly under water chasing its prey of anchovies or herring.
