For the first time this season, guests aboard the Sea Bird experienced the joy of an encounter with a large pod of common dolphins. Under a beautifully sunny sky, cruising toward the southern tip of the Baja peninsula, we spotted a group of about 300 common dolphins swimming toward the ship. These small, playful toothed whales are highly social and routinely travel in large groups. While we leaned over the sides of the bow to watch, the dolphins leaped out of the water around us and rode the pressure wave ahead of the ship. We heard their clicks and high-pitched whistles and speculated about how much fun they must be having.
