Endicott Arm and Williams Cove

We have found during this week in southeast Alaska that we truly have the ability to create our own experiences. On our first night aboard, some of us may not have believed it when this question was posed by our Captain. A show of hands during our last evening showed an overwhelming degree of conviction about this ability. The memories we gathered are as diverse as the landscape itself; exuberantly feeding whales, curious (albeit odiferous) sea lions, kayaking in peaceful coves, zooming in Zodiacs, the delicate beauty of a meadow wildflower, fighting the pull of a deep mud puddle for possession of a rubber boot. These snippets and many others only serve to verify what a willingness to explore and share in adventure can accomplish.

While we may outgrow or perhaps even abandon our rubber boots, they were our vehicle for gathering what is most important, memories that will last a lifetime. Some of our younger travelers took a few moments to reflect on their experiences of this past week. Their writings are shared with you here:

Sea Lions

The sea lions bask in the sun
The sun is happy to share its light with nature and wildlife
The wildlife is grateful for the sun
The sun is happy to share its light
The sea lions bask in the sun.

Whales here, whales there, whales are everywhere!
Mountains here, mountains there, mountains are everywhere!
Water here, water there, water is everywhere!
Birds here, birds there, birds are everywhere!
Nature here, nature there, nature is everywhere!

Water Worms

Don’t you see those water worms, swimming over there?
You can see them swimming in the big ocean blue,
They’ll play around in the ocean
And even chase you too
Yes, those water worms, the seals and sealions
Are almost just like you
So come on to Alaska
And enjoy these amazing animals
‘cause they might enjoy you too.

Giant moving chunk of pressed snow
Land of ice
Awesome to look at
Cold
Igloo
Elephant in size
Roaring when it calves
