Venecia Islet and Cerro Dragon
A spectacular early morning sun rose to provide a warm and colourful day. The Polaris was anchored at the North Western tip of Santa Cruz Island, and we were rejoicing ourselves with the best of views. Surrounded by many islands, we started early in the morning with a romantic Zodiac ride around Venice. This is a wonderful set of rockeries with a lot of wild life. We shared the first hours of our morning with Galápagos sharks, herons, gulls, blue-footed boobies and rays.
Once done with this outing we all went back on board, our floating home to freshen up, drink water, change and gear up this time to go snorkeling around Guy Fawkes. An impressive tuff cone emerged from the ocean floor. Guy Fawkes offers, as most of the islets in the Galápagos, the best of the snorkelling experiences. The amazing geomorphology of its ocean floor is filed with exquisite tropical fish. Kayakers as well had a great time around the area.
In the afternoon, we also had two great outings; the first one was a long but interesting hike with about twenty big and colourful land iguanas along it. These bright reptiles were calmly grazing in the newly sprouted herbs that had come with the last rains. At the end of the day we had a good group of guests who jumped off the Polaris to swim in the deep and warm ocean (74 F) with an outstanding sunset in the background. Kayakers once again were also enjoying the great view in a nearby protected cove.
