Española Island
To arrive to Española Island and to disembark there is not less than paying a visit to one of the very few wonders of the world. Española Island is a place where you can expect the unexpected; every day is a new experience with a taste of untouched nature - where wildlife blends with humans with no difference. A place where a human being is just one more member of an ecosystem full of fearless animals!
Last week we were delighted by the birth of a sea lion pup, this week too. It seems that somehow Mother Nature has arranged all these events in the same place and at the very same time for the enjoyment of all of us.
Punta Suarez is the name of the place of our early expedition. As we landed, sea lions welcomed us with an extraordinary show of their bodysurfing abilities on the big breakers that characterize and make Punta Suarez a unique place.
We went for a hike following a path that took us trough the colonies of sea birds and the ever inquisitive sea lions that can either be playing amongst themselves or pulling the marine iguana’s tails. All animals here have an incredible natural history, but sea lions charm every visitor thus becoming the favorite since the very beginning.
As our hike progressed we got to the place where the majestic Galápagos waved albatross nests, it’s estimated that thousands of these birds live here and nest every year. Right now they are breeding and brown fluffy chicks of different sizes are found along the trail.
The second half of the day was to be spent on a different location on the same island. Here things are different, there is a whole set of activities organized and one can choose and participate in different ones such as snorkeling, kayaking, glass bottom boating and swimming on a gorgeous white sand beach dotted with sea lions.
Here you can have a remarkable and unforgettable experience as you explore the aquatic realm snorkeling with sea lions, large schools of tropical reef fish, and sea turtles. After all of these sightings, you can enjoy a relaxed walk on the beach and let the emotions inherent with these experiences sink in.
In the late afternoon it was time to come back to the Polaris, grab a cocktail and enjoy the night eagerly waiting for the next outing!
