Isabela Island
On a wonderful day like the one we had today, it is certainly very difficult to find a single highlight. We had so many different surprises and emotions that fulfilled every taste. For some guests the wild volcanic landscape was unique. Some people were extremely happy with the excellent weather conditions we had throughout the whole day, refreshing breeze with big sun shining high up in a clear blue sky. Some of us had the thrill to snorkel with sea turtles and the odd ocean sun-fish or Mola mola. For many, the sightings of unusual bird species like Galapagos penguins and flightless cormorants were special.
For many, including myself, there are no words to describe the remoteness and wildness we felt and experienced, it was just magical.
Some people enjoyed the exuberance and beauty of the copious wildlife we all had the privilege to observe today. In the picture above you can see a couple of brown noddy terns with their chick. They represent with their ecological naiveté just a glimpse of the uniqueness of the Galapagos Islands fauna.
Late in the afternoon we had a golden finale that involved hundreds of blue footed boobies plunge diving all around the Polaris. Just like swift javelins from the sky, they were falling at high speeds on their way to trap some fish. The boobies were with the company of a joyful group of bottle nosed dolphins. The entire show had the most wonderful background of a breathtaking, fiery sunset.
