Isla San Marcos & Santa Rosalía

After a good night of sleep we made our way to Isla San Marcos. We arrived to this beautiful island in the Sea of Cortez in time to watch the sunrise. We spent our morning either long hiking or on a shorter hike on San Marcos Island. As the morning was passing by we had the opportunity to snorkel. Unfortunately the sea didn’t allow us to enjoy this beautiful snorkeling place as much as we would have liked. The current was pretty strong, and the water was cold. In spite of this we enjoyed a good swim and spotted a couple of the most common fish.

After a well deserved lunch we started heading to our northeast point in this trip. We where cruising the Sea of Cortes on our way to the beautiful little town of Santa Rosalía. In town we visited the famous church built by Gustav Eiffel, and we wandered looked for the grocery stores to see the chile varieties found in them. Our walk through town ended uphill at the French Hotel. This gorgeous old piece of art is preserved as it used to be 120 years ago. There we had refreshmens and a tour inside one of the hotel rooms. We also enjoyed the view of Santa Rosalía from there, with the port and all the typical French style houses.

We watched the sunset on board the Sea Bird drinking margaritas and enjoying a windy afternoon. As soon as everybody was on board we had another wonderful dinner. Later we left the port of Santa Rosalía and started heading south. If the wind allows us we will be near Loreto tomorrow enjoying more of this beautiful and unique sea.
