Isabela and Fernandina Islands
What an amazing day we just had! It began sailing along the Northern tip of Isabela Island, which is by far the largest island of the whole Archipelago. When it was time to cross the equator line for the second time in our voyage, King Neptune, one of his nymphs and his most trustful pirate decided to show up and claimed victims to punish. After sacrificing some of the guests (not literally!), we kept navigating south towards a place known as Punta Vicente Roca. It was here where we dropped our anchor and lowered our Zodiacs to explore the surrounding hills. The place was teeming with wildlife such as sea turtles, blue footed boobies plunge diving, penguins foraging, and of course the highlight for everyone, the Ocean sun fish also known as Mola mola. We all had a good look of this rather odd-looking creature that stayed for a while around the Zodiacs. It is the western realm of the archipelago that the sun fish has chosen to be his home because of the abundance in food supply. One of our guests, in his desperate attempt to take a good picture of the fish leaned over the Zodiac and captured the picture that we are sharing with you all today. The visibility was great so we decided to gear up with our snorkeling equipment and headed back to the same area to snorkel. It was terrific!
It is hard for me to believe how many things can show up at the same place all together!
In the afternoon we had a relaxing time walking along Punta Espinoza; sea lions were the stars of the afternoon show. It seemed as if they needed to inspect every single visitor they saw. We all had a great time watching them and sharing their natural habitat. It has been another magical day in the enchanted islands.
