Southern Isabela Island

The ship's voyage into the bay this morning was perhaps a little bumpy, but it did not matter because as soon as we heard the sound of the anchor-chain dropping in the water, it translated into a volcano adventure!

There were quite a few guests willing to climb and see the spectacular rim of Sierra Negra Volcano, which last erupted in October, 2005. Off they went as soon as breakfast was done to the adventure that will give them a full morning of exercise combined with birding, on a seven miles trail to the edge of eastern rim of the Caldera.

The rest of the guests decided to take the morning to a different level, so we headed to the historical site called “The Wall of Tears.” This place happens to be the very foundation of town, were a penal colony was settled in what is now an off limits part of Pto Villamil town.

The town itself seemed very appealing for a relaxing morning. The long, white beach that extends as long as you can see in the horizon in a straight line, offered the chance for a refreshing swimming and/or a stroll along the beach.

Once everyone was back from their adventures (and after lunch, of course!) we headed to the giant tortoises breeding center of Isabela. The programs developed here for conservation deserved lot of kudos for their successfulness, since entire populations from different regions on Isabela had been saved due to their unprecedented efforts.A full day of adventures that ended with beach volleyball and cold beers for the guests!
