Bartolome & Santiago Islands
It is so nice to be back! Even though I was away on vacation for only a couple of weeks, I missed these islands so much.
During our first full day in the Galápagos we visited two of my ultimate favorite Islands: Bartolome and James, the last one known also as Santiago Island. Bartolome is known by its incredibly barren landscape, similar to the landscape observed on the moon through a telescope. It was nice to observe some of the primary colonizers on a desert zone such as the lava cactus, acting as the main representative of the flora on the island, and for the fauna, the lava lizard.
Later in the morning we headed to a nice little golden beach to enjoy the snorkeling at the nearby pinnacle rock formation. It was just phenomenal and everyone had their chance to either practice at the tranquil waters by the shore or head to much more adventurous snorkeling around the pinnacle rock. It was nice to hear the cries from the guests when they first encountered a penguin in the water or with the first sight of sea lions swimming near by.
As we know that snorkeling is always among the favorite activities of our guests, we offered it once more in the afternoon. Once done with the snorkeling, we started a walk along the shoreline of Santiago Island. Exploring tide pools is always fun, especially in a place loaded with so many marine invertebrates.
We decided to call it a day and headed back to the Islander where our Hotel Manager had set up a sky deck bar with traditional ceviche cocktails. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day!
