Peter Carey
Peter is a New Zealand zoologist who has worked as a scientist and tour leader in Antarctica and the subantarctic islands since 1983. He is currently doing ecological restoration work on a group of small islands he has purchased in the Falklands archipelago. As Director of the SubAntarctic Foundation for Ecosystems Research (SAFER), a non-profit conservation organisation, Peter is actively involved in improving the wildlife habitat on these islands. In recognition of these efforts, the New Zealand Antarctic Society awarded him their Conservation Award in 2008.
Peter is a Global Fellow of the Wilson Center’s Polar Institute, and also regularly contributes lectures on Antarctic Studies to a number of universities in the United States. He is co-author of the authoritative Antarctica Cruising Guide.
