Luis Espinosa-arrubarrena

Luis received his bachelor’s degree in Biology at the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and his Master’s degree in Paleontology at the California State University (Long Beach, California). Since 1980 Luis has worked in the Department of Paleontology at the Instituto de Geologia (Geological Institute) of UNAM. During this time, he has participated in more than 30 geological and paleontological expeditions in many areas of Mexico and the U.S., but mainly he has worked in Baja California. Luis’s research in the Peninsula of Baja comprehends the fossil record and evolutionary processes of tertiary sharks. From these studies, Luis has published over 15 papers that include the co-authorship of a book on sharks, Tiburones Mexicanos. Luis now studies the geology, paleoecology and paleontology of a cretaceous locality in the state of Puebla, know as the “Tlayua” quarry. This fossil site is internationally famous for the abundance and diversity of its paleobiota, and for the exquisite preservation of its fossils.
